The Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) Refresher Course is designed for senior air traffic controllers and other aviation professionals who have previously completed basic CISM training. This course aims to enhance participants' understanding of CISM principles, review key concepts and techniques, and provide practical tools for managing stress in high-pressure environments. Through interactive sessions, role-playing exercises, and case studies, participants will deepen their knowledge of individual and group intervention methods, peer support strategies, and the roles and responsibilities within a CISM program.
Course Objectives:
• Enhance Understanding of CISM: Deepen knowledge of CISM principles and practices to effectively support colleagues during critical incidents.
• Review Key Concepts and Techniques: Revisit essential CISM strategies, including defusing, debriefing, and the SAFER-R model.
• Discuss the Psychological Impact of Critical Incidents: Explore the emotional, cognitive, and behavioral reactions to critical incidents and their long-term impacts.
• Provide Practical Tools for Managing Stress: Learn immediate, ongoing, and long-term stress management techniques applicable to everyday work situations.
• Strengthen Peer Support Networks: Build and maintain robust peer support systems to mitigate stress and enhance team resilience.

1. Introduction to CISM: Overview of CISM principles, history, and its role in emergency services and aviation.
2. CISM Methods and Techniques: Individual and group intervention methods, defusing and debriefing techniques, role-playing exercises.
3. Roles and Responsibilities in CISM: Responsibilities of CISM program managers, peers, and coordinators, building a supportive CISM team.
4. Maintaining and Evaluating a CISM Program: Strategies for continuous improvement, monitoring and evaluation, gathering and using feedback.
5. Advanced Topics and Practical Application: Handling sensitive data, legal and ethical considerations, integrating CISM with other support programs.
